On Finn's actual birthday we had tickets to watch the Cubs play the Cardinals at Busch Stadium that night. We spent the day touring around historic sites, one being the Chain of Rocks bridge. It is a super cool (no longer operable) bridge that is part of Route 66 and spans across the Mississippi River. It has a 22-degree bend in it and is about a mile long. It was kind of creepy at first because there didn't seem to be anyone at the entrance, and no one on walking on the bridge. It may have been that the heat index was over 100, but we figured there would be others interested in it! We only saw a few other people the whole time, but it was super cool (and super sweaty hot).
After we got our exercise on walking the Chain of Rocks Bridge (and we did the whole thing!), we went to Crown Candy Kitchen for lunch and ice cream! This is another historic diner in North St. Louis and is the oldest operating soda fountain in the area. (According to wikipedia, it is one of the oldest in the country!) It was delicious and a neat environment! Our kids eyes were certainly bigger than their stomachs!
After we went to lunch we went home and napped and relaxed a bit before we got ready for the baseball game! It was a great game, the kids had a blast, and the Cubs won! (Sorry Finn...). It was stupid HOT and we were drenched in our own sweat even after the sun went down. But it was a great time!
