Faith of a Child

Matthew 18:2-4
And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

There is something innocent and sweet about a praying child. I absolutely love to hear my children pray, and I love their simple yet strong faith in the Lord. With no questions asked, just pure faith. Over Easter weekend Josh and I asked the boys what happened on Good Friday and what was so important about Easter. And I was surprised to hear their very correct answers that Christ died on the cross to save us from our sins, then rose from the "death" as Keagan says. They probably do not fully understand what this means, however the seeds have been planted. And their innocence is refreshing to my adult questioning.

In church, I don't think the boys really pay a bit of attention to what is going on. We encourage them to sing and pray before getting their coloring books and crayons out. I try to get them to be still during prayer time, but that is usually next to impossible. But one Sunday morning our friend Paula snapped this sweet picture of Finley praying. Keagan is behind/beside him holding Paula's daughter's hand and praying as well. I cried when I saw this picture. It is perfection. And it makes me realize that the difficulty that comes with taking two littles to church, sometimes by myself, is worth it...even if I don't always get much out of the sermon.

Because He Lives - Happy Easter!!

"Because He Lives (Amen)"

I believe in the Son
I believe in the risen One
I believe I overcome
By the power of His blood

Amen, Amen
I’m alive, I’m alive
Because He lives
Amen, Amen
Let my song join the one that never ends
Because He lives

I was dead in the grave
I was covered in sin and shame
I heard mercy call my name
He rolled the stone away

Amen, Amen
I’m alive, I’m alive
Because He lives
Amen, Amen
Let my song join the one that never ends

Because He lives
I can face tomorrow
Because He lives
Every fear is gone
I know He holds my life my future in His hands

Amen, Amen
I’m alive, I’m alive
Because He lives
Amen, Amen
Let my song join the one that never ends

Amen, Amen
I’m alive, I’m alive
Because He lives
Amen, Amen
Let my song join the one that never ends
Because He lives
Because He lives

Easter is such an amazing time of year! Christ died to SAVE us from our sins on Good Friday and arose from the grave on Easter! How incredible! The song above is one of my favorites. It was sung by a church member last Easter and it gives me such a sense of rejuvenation every time I hear it on the radio. Look it up and listen to the song. It is powerful!

Easter morning shenanigans and baskets! We went with a fishing theme this year and the boys cannot wait to try out their new rods and tackle boxes!

I look at the next pictures and my heart explodes with love. My boys (all THREE) clean up so well and are all so handsome! I am a pretty lucky lady!

Yep..more outtakes. In fact, I probably took 30 pictures and most of them look like the one below!

egg hunting IS a sport

Have you ever watched kids at an Easter egg hunt?  If so then you are aware that this activity is competitive and there are techniques that are more effective than others. A game plan is the best way to get as many eggs as possible. Keagan was on it this year. In all 3 egg hunts you could see him scoping out the surroundings and making a plan to get the most eggs possible. Finley, on the other hand, required all three hunts to get the hang of the game.

The boys first egg hunt was an Easter party at school. They got to make ice cream sundaes and hang out with their friends before heading outside to hunt eggs. The big kids (Keagan's class) hunted eggs on the playground and the littler kids hunted in the grass with the eggs very visible. Finn really only cared about the "funny" eggs...anything that was out of the ordinary from a typical plastic egg. And this kept him from getting his 12 allotted eggs at Hunt #1. He would actually walk over a handful of other eggs to get to the funny ones. So Finn walked away from this hunt with only 8. This tore Josh up! I didn't know Josh was that competitive, but now that I do I can only imagine him as a little kid pushing the others out of the way to get as many eggs as possible. Luckily Finn just didn't care. Keagan got his 12 allowed eggs. And did so quickly.

Finn was supposed to be walking out to the field with his class. I was walking with Keagan's class ahead of Finn's, and all of a sudden here comes Finley running as fast as he can past everyone! Another parent said they overheard Finn say he had to get out here before all the eggs were gone! Ha!

Egg hunt #2: Our church does a hunt every year and it is always so much fun. This was the first year ever that the boys got to participate in the same spot, and it made life easier and more fun for me and Josh. On our way to church we explained to Finley that he has to actually pick up eggs that he sees, instead of walking past them to get just the "funny" eggs. He was ready. When the kids were told to go, they took off and Finn's initial gusto and speed was promising. But then he went to the "funny" eggs only. Again. Josh and I had to step back and just laugh instead of coach him through it. It is hard to table your competitive nature and just let your kid be a kid sometimes. Keagan scooped up so many eggs that we actually asked him to stop and sent him to help his brother out!

Oh me...this is what I am working with when trying to get a picture of my boys!

Yummy...sprinkles and chocolate donuts. My boys were in heaven. This pregnant girl was pretty content herself!

On Your Marks! Get Set! GO!!!!  (the preschool egg hunting spot)

Now, I asked a friend to take our picture after the hunt. I included the outtakes because it shows just how impossible it is to get a decent picture of the 4 of us. And how funny my boys are. And how Josh looks the same in every single picture.

Finally got ONE that was decent enough.

After the egg hunt we dyed our own eggs. The boys think this is the best thing ever. Keagan is obsessed with the colors of the rainbow, and likes the colors to be perfectly lined up in ROYGBV order. If you don't know what that is, you are probably normal. Keagan took after me in the obsession with color coordination. (He catches when the rainbow colors are out of order...in books, in his brother's work, in cartoons...and it bugs him to no end. I think it is funny because I am the same way.)

Final egg hunt of Easter took place at our house after church Sunday. And Finn and Keagan got about the same number of eggs this time. I actually hid the eggs and made it more difficult for them to find, instead of just tossing them in the grass. It was fun to watch them find the eggs, or walk right past one that seemed obvious!

I may or may not have ruined my kids imagination this year. Keagan was asking something about the Easter bunny and I just didn't have the energy to make something up. So I told them I was the Easter bunny. At first they were disappointed, then they were confused, then they argued with me a little. And I told them that there was no such thing. I kind of felt like an awful mom. But really. I just couldn't come up with any ideas of what the fictional bunny was or did and how he fit in with Jesus's death and resurrection. We really want the boys to know the real reason of Easter and not for the bunny. And Santa is hard enough to maintain, but at least he comes with his own set of consistent "rules" that most people get. So I told them that I hid the eggs and was the "Easter Bunny" but there really is a Santa Clause, and Jesus is REAL.  They seemed good with that.

Puttin' On the Mitz

In January we were supposed to attend a cocktail party fundraiser for the Marshall County Exceptional Center. It was a blast last year so we were super excited about this year! There were two problems: 1) I was sick as a dog and couldn't really survive past 730 pm. 2) It snowed. Wouldn't you know, problem number 2 took care of problem number 1, and the Puttin' on the Mitz party was postponed til this past weekend. Unfortunately for most people, including two other couples at our table, the weekend it was moved to didn't work. But for the three of us couples remaining we were determined to have a great time despite the overall low turnout!! And we did!

It's always fun to get all dressed up and fancy every once in a while. (Side note, I awoke with a remarkable case of double pink eye the morning before and anticipated having to wear zero eye makeup and glasses to our event. Luckily, the antibiotic drops worked super fast and I was able to put my contacts in and slap some eye makeup on just before we left!) Josh and I stopped and picked up Stacey and Jarrett and took some pictures on their deck. You know, adult prom minus corsages. We met Tracey and Jason at the party, but I snagged a sweet pic of them from her Facebook page!

Gotta document that I am just shy of 23 weeks pregnant!! It caused a lot of conversation and turned heads at the party which was super fun! I felt huge, but I think that is just my general feeling these days. Not getting any better anytime soon. Haha!

While the grown-ups were taking fancy pictures, Annie changed inside and put on her fanciest dress, crown, and shoes. Then wanted a picture with all of us...she even placed us where she wanted us! I absolutely love this picture...something about a sweet little girl who just thinks her mommy and her mommy's friend are so pretty that she has to emulate them! Of course, we totally obliged her...and her sweet smile is priceless!!

At the Mitz! Hard to get any good pictures because of the lighting, but here are a few that were snapped. They had a photo booth set up with photo props, so we did a few of those as well. They are pictures of a picture, though, so they didn't turn out as good.
