Last summer at church camp Finley's heart was changed and a fire was lit for the Lord. It was a beautiful moment and I am so thankful that I was there to see it.
Side note: I didn't think I was church camp chaperone material...but something compelled me to volunteer. And something compelled Mrs. Margaret - our children's minister - to accept my position...and I loved every minute. But I know the Lord had me there for a reason. I hope it was to help plant seeds and not just be a warm body. I also think that He gave me a viewpoint into my Finley's heart. Finn has always been a very complex little boy. A thinker and one who fixates on things, often to the point of driving us crazy. But he is an old soul who really wants to know how things work. I figured his response to becoming a Christian would be a while because he has to have solid answers to difficult questions. And faith just doesn't work like that...that is absolutely the opposite of having faith. But he listened, he learned, he prayed and his sweet heart changed right before my eyes. Not only that, he couldn't get enough and talked to Cody (our youth pastor) nightly to learn as much as he could. He and Cody would then talk to the other kids. He became a little Billy Graham. It was awesome to see...and that is about as much as I had to do with it. I was on the outside looking in. But I really think I was supposed to be a spectator so that I could better learn who Finley is, instead of typically seeing him as my difficult child.
After camp was over and life went back to normal, Finn was still on fire. And then he (and several others from our congregation) were baptized in Kentucky Lake. It was a beautiful lakeside service. But before the service we all got to "play" at the Crossings Camp.
