Honest to goodness, the month of May has absolutely flown. We have been so incredibly busy that I have had little to no time to breathe let alone sit down to compose a blog post! I have been trying to organize my thoughts and my pictures for this post for over a week. But, even as I write this, I know it won't be ready tonight!
The second weekend in May we loaded up the boys and drove down to Texas for a whirlwind adventure to watch my brother be commissioned into the Navy and graduate from Texas A&M. It was the longest short trip ever! But it was nice to be there for my brother and I love to hear Keagan talk about all the fun he had in Texas with his Uncle Wesley. I am fairly certain Keagan's idol is Wes. Keagan (and Finn!) also really enjoyed their Aunt Hannah, Grandma and Grandpa. AND they got to meet their Great Grandma Gail (affectionately nicknamed "Super Grandma" over the course of the weekend). Finn really took to "Super Grandma" nearly immediately and was her sidekick for the moments we weren't driving in the car!
Aunt Hannah loving on and playing with her nephews. They shared something in common: they both love the Disney movie Frozen!
Waiting for Uncle Wesley's commissioning. The boys were excited to get snacks for lunch from the campus bookstore. And Finn made sure to let everyone he saw know he was excited about his bag of chips!
Fistbump with Grandpa
A nice picture of my mom and dad, and then dad did something funny with his mouth! Intentional? Probably.During Wesley's commissioning ceremony it was all we could do to keep Finley entertained. And Keagan did good, but he kept waiting for the "magic show." Don't know where he got that, but we just let him roll with it... :)
Proud Grandma Gail
Wes and his baby sister...
and his big sister! (GAH!! Where did my BABY brother go?!!)
The graduation ceremony started at 7pm. And the second we sat down (I kid you not, as our butts were making contact with the seats) Finn began fussing. And then it became miserable and Josh and I took turns walking him around the outside of the arena. (Finn asks to go to bed at 730 so I knew it was going to be tough) Keagan was bored, and wasn't very well behaved until the end (yep) when he got to sit on Grandpa's lap. And by the end of it we were all a little cranky...but then Wesley walked across the stage and we all remembered why we were there. It was neat to watch my baby brother cross the stage and receive his "diploma" in his Navy uniform. I can't lie, all I could see was a little boy about 2 years old, looking at the sky and naming off every airplane perfectly. I am so proud of this little boy...ok, man...for achieving his dreams. Oh the places you'll go!
A rare moment of Finn being good...of course food WAS involved! :)
Waiting for Uncle Wesley to walk..getting some love from my big boy
We got home and in bed late-late-late that night (ok, more like the next morning). But we were able to relax some Saturday before Wesley's graduation party. We metup with an old friend from high school, who now lives in Austin, and his family. It was fun to meet Andrew's wife Becky and little boy Elijah. We had originally met for breakfast but then we decided to get breakfast "to go" and take it to a park so the kids could run around and burn some energy. While we caught up and enjoyed getting to know Becky, our boys ran around and enjoyed the awesome park!
That afternoon after the boys had naps we headed out to swim and then Keagan really wanted to see Grandpa's train. And Finley found Uncle Wesley's airplane and he was gracious enough to let Finn sit in there with him. Finn thought he was big stuff!
Before Wesley's party Keagan roped him into putting some kites together. There is always a good wind at my parent's house so perfect kite-flying weather! And because kites fly, Uncle Wesley was more than happy to oblige his nephew. Later on the model airplane came out and that was a big hit, too. Finn's new favorite word is "airplane" but it sounds more like "ah-aine" with lots of excitement!!
All I will tell you about our trip down to Texas is that it took 14 hours to get there, and you wouldn't wish that trip on your worst enemy. But the boys (Finn, mainly) redeemed themselves on the way home. And it only took 11.5 hours! :)
