As I mentioned in the soccer post, Keagan was a crazy busy little athlete this fall. After soccer we would then rush to baseball. This season he played coach-pitch baseball. Luckily the boys still had the option to use a tee if they needed to, but I am pleased to say that Keagan only rarely needed to. He did fantastic with baseball. Now, he would get a little "dead behind the eyes" when his team wasn't batting, and this caused me and Josh to at times yell at him to pay attention or get his head in the game. We are very active sports parents. I have always told Keagan that he didn't have to be the best, but he had to try. And the problem with baseball is, unless your team is batting, there is way way way too much downtime. So we would catch Keagan striking up a conversation with the opposing team's player on the base he was supposed to be covering. Or digging in the dirt. Or spinning. Or just staring. And while he never got hit by the ball, he did miss several grounders that he could have gotten. Luckily, they don't keep score at this age. (I may be a tad competitive...)
Our coaches for this season were phenomenal. They worked with the boys so well and were incredibly patient. It was fun to watch the progress and improvement of each little boy. They put so much effort into individually helping each boy where he needed, and they never got frustrated with them. I am thankful for the dads that are able to help make my son's experience so good.
Practicing catching and throwing with daddy:
One day Keagan's friend Maeci ended up being at one of his games. She came with her mom (duh-she's 5) who came to watch another little boy on Keagan's team. She didn't realize Keagan and Nash were on the same team. Well...they pretty much blew Keagan's focus in the game!!!! Maeci stood by Josh and I and waved at him, talked to him thru the fence, and they made googly-eyes at each other. I am not even kidding. Keagan couldn't take his focus off her. He would start waving really big while playing on 2nd base, and at first I thought he was waving at me. But NooOoooOoo, he was waving at Maeci!! This game he had to use the tee every single time he got to hit. (Now, whenever you talk to Keagan next, PLEASE PLEASE do not tease him about this, or say anything about her being his "girlfriend" as I don't want to embarrass him. He loves her, and she him...and her mom and I love their innocence. And while we secretly get a huge laugh at their rather obvious interest in each other, we don't want to make a thing of it.)
That is Keagan on 1st base behind Maeci in this pic...
Keagan also had another little fan: his brother. Finn would cheer on Keagan any chance he got...that is when he wasn't digging in the dirt, or finding rocks, or granddaddy long leg spiders.
I really wanted a family picture at the ballfields...and wouldn't you know it my youngest was adamant about picking his nose. Pretty true to life right there!
Keagan and one of his best buddies, Hank.
At the last game, the boys received their metals and the coaches talked to the boys individually while "taking a knee" and told them how proud he was of them. See?! We had great coaches! These boys had a great time playing, you could see it every game in every boy.
My handsome little baseball player. As much fun as we had with his sports this fall, I am hoping he narrows down which one he wants to focus on soon. Especially because Finn will be doing something in the spring, too.
