Finn decided to run middle school track this spring - as a 5th grader. He was very nervous, as you can imagine. Not only was he one of the youngest kids on the team (there were several 5th graders so that helped), but he had never done anything like this before. As nervous as Finn was, he was also equally excited. He thoroughly enjoyed himself and realized that he is a pretty good runner. (now, as much as I enjoyed watching Finn run, track meets are loooooong) He still needs practice and has some strengthening and growing to do, but as a 5th grader Finn did quite well!
trying on his new uniform and getting himself in the groove!
a little Usain Bolt posing
getting ready to run in his first ever track meet - starting with the 800m
Finn was in first (in his heat) until the very end when this boy in the blue passed him...
Finn ran his first 800m race in 2:57! We had no idea what that meant - but everyone said that's a great time for his first race AND as a 5th grader.
good sportsmanship makes my heart sing! the boy who won first in the heat gave Finn knuckles for a good race
Another track meet - same location as the first (but much more tolerable temps! the first one was around 46 degrees!!) Finn is lining up to run the 1600m (1 mile)
Finn finished the 1600m in 6:45! I am amazed at him!

I am so proud of this child of mine. He has so much grit and I will always be his biggest fan!
