the ZOO!! (Waco, TX)

My kids love a good zoo. And so do Josh and I! So we drove up to Waco to take the kids to the zoo there. It isn't a huge zoo, but it was perfect for the little kids. And Keagan (he is a big kid now) enjoyed navigating and reading the signs and telling us alllllllll about the animals and exhibits!

I am not certain what this picture was about, but for about a month prior to our trip Finley was telling us (not asking...) that he would be getting a stuffed animal snake from the zoo in Texas. Apparently he just knew. And so he was super thrilled to also be seeing the snakes at the zoo.

When we got to the orangutan exhibit there was a baby orangutan! He was just born in January and there was an explanation near the exhibit that talked about him being born in captivity and the handlers tried to get the momma to raise him but they feared it wouldn't go well, so he was being hand-raised by the staff. Apparently they were working with the mother to get her to show more maternal instincts, even breast pumping milk to feed the baby (we all got a kick out of that...and then asked HOW without having your face mauled off... there was no explanation on this unfortunately).

The mother orangutan kept a close eye on her baby thru the glass, here she is looking across the breeze way into the same room we were looking into at the baby!

Finn got hangry (in case this term eludes you: it is angry because you are hungry) part way through the zoo, and the only snackbar at the center of the zoo was closed. This fueled his hanger. Luckily we got close enough to the front of the zoo that we bypassed the last little bit and ate, then went back to the last exhibits. He was much happier after filling his belly.

The gift shop had stuffed animal snakes! (Praise the Lord!!! I would hate to have to ride home with Finley if they didn't have them)
