California Dreamin' ... Day 4

WOW.  Already to Day 4 of our Cali vacation.  Time truly flies when having fun.  On this day of our vacation we went to the California State Fair with my Aunt Angie and cousin Hunter, and Hunter's friend Cole.  It was a really neat fair, and apparently I have been to this fair before because it seemed my family members all had different memories of me as a little girl at the fair.  My mom's recollection involved me riding a never-ending pony ride because the guy "in charge" of the pony rides forgot to take me off.  Sounds like we got more bang for our buck.  Glad these people remember all this because I don't!!  (Now do you see why I am obsessed with pictures and my blog?  I have no working memory past 12 months!  OK, so this isn't true, but close.)

I digress.

We took Keagan and spent a large part of the day at the fair.  Again, Keagan learned to take a nap in his stroller and was, for the most part, wonderful.  We started with the livestock and petting zoos.  I had never seen so much livestock up close like I did this day.  (at least that I remember...haha!)  It was awesome!  The funny thing was that Keagan really could care less.  He was pretty much oblivious.



This goat was bleating so loudly we could hear it long before we could see it.  So we found her and wheeled Keagan right up to see the goat.  Of course she bleh'd loud (L.O.U.D.) right in Keagan's face and he didn't much care for it...

He really enjoyed the horses and ponies, and his Aunt Angie:

"Petting" sturgeon fish...gross!  Keagan wanted NOTHING to do with this.

At the actual petting zoo, again he really could care less.  But I loved it!

I don't know if this is his momma, but ya gotta love a kid that tries! 

Even Hunter and Cole enjoyed the petting zoo...but they couldn't let on that they enjoyed it ;)  Teenage boys aren't supposed to love cute cuddly animals! Haha

This picture is adorable of Angie, but it is an inside joke...the above gives you one view, then the bottom pic is a slimmer-butt view! HAHA :)  It might actually work!  Too bad your back has to be to the camera all the time to achieve a slimmer booty.

Keagan rode the carousel...we had no clue how he'd react.  The child LOVED it, and cried when it ended!!  Check out his fishy-face in the 3rd picture.  He has found his lips and tongue and constantly is making faces!  So funny!!

So much fun!!  While it didn't really bring back memories from my childhood, it was fun to capture new memories of my family at the California State Fair.

California-Find Yourself Here...Day 3

Day 3 found us at a beach on Lake Tahoe with Aunt Mickey and Uncle Paul.  This was Keagan's first beach experience and he was a pretty darn good boy.  The weather was perfect.  Absolutely perfect!  It was around 80 degrees and just a slight breeze.  The water temp left a little to be desired, I have no clue what the temp was but let's just call it freezing.  After all, Lake Tahoe is surrounded by mountains.  And these mountains continue to have snow on them in the summer.  But don't be fooled.  I took a couple dips, up to my neck.  And I froze.  But I did it! 

The best part of this day, other than the wonderful company of my family, were the views. I was slightly obsessed with the views around me and this is obvious in my pictures; it isn't everyday that you can be on a beach and see snow on the mountains around you. Check it out:

Keagan learned to nap anywhere on this trip.  So thankful for this!!

Lake Tahoe is an interesting lake.  Check out this website.  It has some very interesting facts:

- Lake Tahoe is 22 miles x 12 miles and is 1,645feet deep.  It's water will completely cover the state of California with 14.5" deep of water.   

- Lake Tahoe's water is 99.9% pure. The water is so clear that a 10 inch white dinner plate would be visible at 78 feet below the surface.

- An average 1,400,000 tons of water evaporates from the surface of Lake Tahoe every 24 hours, yet this drops the lake level only one-tenth of an inch.

- If the water that evaporates from the lake every 24 hours could be recovered, it would supply the daily requirements of a population of 3,500,000 people.

Heads Carolina, Tails California... Day 2

Day 2 was a nice laid back day in Sacramento. We got up, visited, and had a nice breakfast with my aunt, uncle and cousins. We then drove back to the airport to pick up our rental car. The rest of the day we shopped and ate and just visited. Keagan was a tired boy but he did pretty well just going with the flow after minimal sleep and possible jet lag. We had a great time hanging out with everyone!

Saturday evening, we headed to another Aunt and Uncle's house, where we "resided" until Wednesday.  We visited with them and had a lovely picnic dinner.  Stay tuned for Day 3 tomorrow!
